30 Years Later, Singles Is Better as a Snapshot of 1990s Grunge than as a Movie
Main Post: 30 Years Later, Singles Is Better as a Snapshot of 1990s Grunge than as a Movie
Top Comment: I don't know how old the person who wrote this article is, but as someone who was 20 when this movie came out and therefore was part of the exact target audience for it, I can say they missed the mark on their interpretation. They seem to think that the movie was supposed to be a grand gesture of love, and that there was a missing Lloyd Dobler who could have somehow brought the disparate loose threads together in a neat, trite, little package. This movie isn't supposed to be like any other Cameron Crowe movie. It is supposed to be just like this movie. Young adults trying to make their way in a world that was made for their parents, and finding solace in friends and an explosion of art that is all their own: Grunge Music. Yes, everyone in the movie finds themselves adrift in some way, and is only anchored in life by their friends and neighbors, but that is how life can be when you are starting out on your own. Yes, the studio made a cash grab; studios by their very nature are about cash grabs. Sometimes we get something from them that isn't just about market share, but it's increasingly rare. But, most importantly, this is a slice-of-life movie. We grew up with American Graffiti in '73 and Five Easy Pieces in '77, then we're gifted the Breakfast Club in '85, and then we had Slacker in 1990, and a slew of fellow travellers in the next few years; Singles in '92, Dazed and Confused in '93, Clerks. in '94, Before Sunrise in '95. The lack of plot is the point. We just get to see (and hear) a bit of what goes on in a moment of these characters' lives. That's what the whole point is.
Singles Movie, Good?
Main Post:
Finally watching Singles. I’ll say some nice things. The Pearl Jam cameo is incredible. Those guys in those early years were insanely cool. The soundtrack is good it keeps wanting to break through. Ok the actual movie. It’s not very good. What do you think of the film?
Top Comment: i always say “you put up with the corniness for the cornellness”. actually, i’ve only said that twice now. but i mean it.
I just watched Singles for the first time. Here's my short review.

I saw the DVD the other day at Goodwill and had to get it. People either seem to love this movie and defend it hard or hate it and disown it as a movie made just to capitalize on a growing scene at the time. I had to see what it was all about.
I didn't grow up in the 90s. I wasn't born until 2001. It was kinda cool getting a glimpse of what life was like back then and what Seattle was like back then. I grew up in Seattle (left after middle school) so I recognized a lot of places. I guess it was kinda neat to see what dating was like. I'm aromantic asexual so all I know about dating in today's time is through the media as well, TBH. Yes, the soundtrack is good. Yes, I like how people from various grunge bands had cameos in the movie. Yes, I enjoyed seeing various posters and grunge band references in the background. I don't feel like I wasted 90-whatever minutes of my life, but would I watch it again, probably not. I thought it was going to be a rom-com. Like, I thought it would be half romance half comedy. There were a couple scenes I thought were a little bit funny, but nothing made me laugh. I'd say 6.4 out of 10 stars.
Top Comment: I can’t believe they made a movie to go with the album!

What is the single best dating app?
Main Post:
I’m a 20 year old male, and I’ve been in that stage lately where I’m getting burnt out by online dating, and trying to download as many dating apps as I can. Most of them have been giving little to no results, and I want to pick an app to put more effort into so I stop wasting time on things like Zoosk and Okcupid. What is the number one most likely dating app to get you good conversations/dates? And any advice on how to do well on said app would be great too.
Top Comment: No dating app
Where do single nice guys hang out?
Main Post:
Hello all, I’m just looking for advice as a single female living in Nova. Where should I look if I want to have the best chance at finding a single guy that wants to have a serious relationship and eventually settle down and have a family. I’ve lived in Nova for about 4 years, and have gone on several dates from dating apps and I’ve even went to some speeding dating events. It seems like all the men I meet don’t want to commit to anything and just want to use me for sex. I’m not a bar person, and I don’t think guys that are attracted to bars would be a good fit for me. What are some friendly social events that exist in Nova where I can expect to meet single guys?
*Update: Thank you for all the wonderful advice in the comments. Between this thread and some other existing Reddit threads, I found meetup.com and signed up for social groups. I love frisbee, ping pong, chill kayaking, indoor rock climbing, museums, running/happy hour/coffee/cafe socials and found lots of groups in my area, Oct and Nov are booked up for me. 😊
Top Comment: When guys ask similar questions they are directed to volunteer somewhere or go to a relaxed bar (like Auld Shebeen) or join a hiking, painting, pickleball or casual kickball group.
I'm looking for a dating subreddit that actually works.

r/foreveralonedating is too slow. r/r4r is full of freaks (don't ask) and r/r4rAsian hardly has any Asians in the subreddit. Is there any good subreddit to find personal relationships and most importantly love.
Top Comment:
Don't use reddit for dating.
How do you meet single people these days?
Main Post:
I have kids which just limits my time and options. Dating apps all kind of suck, but I haven't given up hope. Last time I dated I was in college and it was easy to go to parties and just make drunken connections.
So where should I be prioritizing my efforts? Usually have a weekday to myself but is that actually helpful
